  1. Step 1

Find somebody who has the vertical leap to dunk easily. Or find a basket that allows you to adjust the height of the rim.

  2. Step 2

Decide you're going to throw the alley-oop before you get to the three-point arch.

  3. Step 3

Make eye contact with your partner who has the hops.

  4. Step 4

Toss the ball toward the basket with a shot-like motion - soft and with an arch - when your teammate is two or three steps away from jumping.

  5. Step 5

Aim for a spot barely above the rim, and to the side that your teammate is approaching from.

  6. Step 6

Watch as your teammate chocks up an assist for you with a thundering dunk.

Tips & Warnings
  • A soft, arching toss is easier for your teammate to receive.
  • Work on the timing frequently to learn the motions of the play.
  • Trust your teammate.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity.

on 11/22/2005 Probably the greatest highlight in basketball - the alley-oop!
Your hand-to-eye coordination must be spot on to avoid potential injury to your team mate. Throw a chest pass where you anticipate the man will end up in the air. Follow through like a jump-shot for maximum accuracy.

on 11/22/2005 You have to trust your teammate, if you are dunking, he has to throw the alley-oop at the right time. Trust me on this, I have a lot of experience. I've been catching alley-oops easily. Jump with authority and catch it near the rim. Make sure your wrists are above the rim.

on 11/22/2005 Don't get fancy with the no-look passes too early, even if you have to fake your entire shot at first. You'll get the hang of it.
