How to Crossover Dribble in Basketball

A move so simple, yet it makes you look so good - and your opponent so bad.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Basketballs

Step1
Dribble the ball in your dominant hand (let's pretend you're right-handed for the purpose of this example).
Step2
Use your body as a slight barrier between the ball and your defender, but still face your defender.
Step3
Take a step with your left foot.
Step4
Follow that with a step with your right foot.
Step5
Let the defender move in the direction you appear to be headed.
Step6
Switch the ball to your left hand with a quick, low bounce directly in front of your defender.
Step7
Take a step with your left foot around the defender.
Step8
Drive to the basket.

Tips & Warnings

  • The crossover dribble is easier to pull off if you really act as if you're going to drive in the initial direction you're headed.
  • The faster you can go through these steps, the harder it is for the defender to keep up.
  • When all else fails, watch Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia 76ers. He probably has the best crossover move in the NBA.

on 1/7/2007 Crossover - It looks extremely simple, but some defenders can be pretty tough to fight around. A tip to the crossover is to try to bring the ball upcourt in your weak hand, this will have the defender thinking you are for say a lefty when you are a righty. Then when you get to your defender quickly crossover to your dominant hand, this will let you have more control over the ball as you drive to the basket.

on 8/8/2006 This dazzling move requires much practice. Bounce the ball one way, then go the other way, then bounce the ball back that way, then turn around and go the other way, after this go back the other way while bouncing the ball.
