How to Make a Slider Knot on a Hemp Necklace

How to Make a Slider Knot on a Hemp Necklace thumbnail
Finish your hemp necklaces with a slider knot if you don't want to use a metal clasp.

Hemp makes for a durable material with which to make jewelry. Clasps can be used to finish hemp necklaces, but if you prefer to not include metal in your hemp necklace you can use a hemp slider knot to finish the piece. The same knot can be used to finish jewelry made with other materials, such as a leather cord, once you learn how to tie this knot.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the hemp necklace out in front of you in a straight line on your work surface.

    • 2

Bring the two ends up to form the circle into and overlap the two ends of the necklace. If you are dealing with multiple strands of hemp treat all the strands for each end of the necklace as a single strand.

    • 3

Wrap the hemp from the left side around the hemp from the right side. Wrap that hemp again, this time around itself and the hemp from the right side. Push the end of the hemp from the left side of the necklace through the two loops you just created and tighten the slider knot.

    • 4

Repeat the knotting process with the hemp from the right side of the necklace. Loop it around the hemp from the left side. Then, loop it around itself and the hemp from the left side. Pull the end of the hemp through the two loops and tighten the knot.

    • 5

Trim the excess hemp from each knot.
