Instructions for How to Make a Beer Hat
Beer hats are innovative head wear onto which two beer cans are strapped. By placing the cans onto your hat, your hands are free to hold snacks. They are often worn by sports fans at games but can also be worn at home as well. Although you can purchase a beer hat, it is just as easy to make one yourself at home. In fact, you probably already have most items you need to accomplish the project. Does this Spark an idea?

Place a 6-inch piece of duct tape onto a slick surface with the sticky side facing upward. Cut another 6-inch long piece of duct tape and turn it sticky side down. Place the edge of the tape in the middle of the first piece of tape leaving half of the bottom tape exposed. Press down to secure the tape. Place the edge of another piece of duct tape over the exposed sticky area with half of it stuck to the work surface.

Peel the tape off of the work surface and flip it over to reveal an exposed edge of tape. Cut another 6-inch piece of tape and place the edge at the location of the exposed section of tape. Continue flipping over the tape sheet and placing additional strips of duct tape until you have a 12-inch wide sheet of duct tape. At this point there will be one exposed edge of sticky tape. Fold the edge over and press down on it so that no sticky edges are exposed.

Place a ruler on top of the sheet of duct tape and use a pencil or marker to draw a rectangle that is 8 3/4 inches wide by 6 inches long.

Cut out the duct tape along the pencil marks using scissors. Do not discard the scraps.

Roll the sheet of duct tape into a cylinder and secure the edges with an additional piece of duct tape.

Press down on the cylinder to flatten it and then fold it in half. Use scissors to cut the middle fold, creating two cylinders.

Cut some of the scrap duct tape into two strips that are 4 to 5 inches long and approximately 2 to 3 inches wide. Place one strip under a cylinder with the edges positioned along the side of the cylinder. Tape the strip to the cylinder on each side using duct tape. This creates a bottom for the cylinder that will hold the beer can in place. Repeat the process to attach a bottom strip to the other cylinder.

Place one cylinder on either side of a cap at the location of the ears. Place two to three long pieces of duct tape into the cylinder and secure the other end of the tape onto the top of the cap to hold the cylinder in place. Repeat the process to secure the other cylinder on the opposite side of the cap.

Cut two pieces of plastic tubing that are approximately 2 feet long.

Insert the end of one tube all the way into the cylinder. Wrap the tubing down the back of the hat and secure it using duct tape. Wrap the free end of the tubing around the front of the hat and under the cylinder tubing on the opposite side of the hat. Secure the tubing to the side of the hat using duct ape. The tubing is now positioned near where you chin will be. Repeat the process for inserting and taping the plastic tubing for the other cylinder.

Insert one beer can into each cylinder and stick the plastic tubing down into the cans. Put the cap on your head and insert one of the lower tubes into your mouth to drink.
