How to Introduce Yourself to Classmates

How to Introduce Yourself to Classmates thumbnail
Introducing yourself to your classmates doesn't have to be difficult.

Whether you are in the fifth grade or college, the first day of school means new clothes, new teachers and new classmates. Introducing yourself to your classmates can be challenging, especially if you do not know anyone in the class. Instead of seeing it as a frightening experience, however, you can embrace the opportunity to get to know new people.

Instructions

    • 1

Be organized. A Girl's World suggests you go shopping, organize your room and prepare yourself for the first day of school before it gets here. If you are unorganized on the first day of school, it will be difficult to stay focused on meeting new people.

Relax. A Girl's World says that by relaxing, you ready yourself emotionally for the new school year. Spending time with old friends also helps you relax. Even if you won't be seeing them much this year, surrounding yourself with old friends can remind you that you do have a support network. Even if introducing yourself to your classmates takes some time, you have these friends on which to rely.

Decide who you would like to know. The Quint Careers website states that college students should make an effort to get to know roommates, dorm residents and other first-year students. Whether you're in college or elementary school, you need to make choices about who you would like as friends. While you can be friendly with everyone, you cannot be everyone's best friend. Single out those who sit next to you or those who share many classes with you as the ones that you would like to meet first.

Locate study buddies. According to the Middle Tennessee State University website, students who study together do better academically. One of the best ways to introduce yourself to a classmate, even in the middle of the year, is by asking the student to study with you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Participate in your teachers' "get to know you" games. While they can seem awkward and uncomfortable, they will help you learn a little more about your classmates.

  • While you don't want to be unfriendly, be selective about the friends you choose. If a person acts as if he will get you into trouble, it might be best to steer clear.
