How to Wear Ribbon Headbands

Wear ribbon headbands in a variety of different ways.

Headbands have adorned the locks of girls and women for generations and they continue to be a popular way to add interest to your hairstyle while holding hair back securely. Because the variety of headband styles is staggering, so too is the way people choose to wear them. Keep your headband style simple by using basic ribbons and tying them around your head snugly. Wear ribbon headbands with any clothing style, from casual to dressy.

Things You'll Need

• Ribbons
• Tape measure
• Scissors
• Hairbrush

Instructions

1. Cut a length of ribbon to go around your head as a headband. If you want to tie the ribbon in a bow at the top of your head, cut the ribbon approximately 35 inches long. If you want to tie the ribbon in a simple knot and conceal the knot beneath your hair, cut the ribbon approximately 30 inches long.

2. Brush through your hair and arrange it in the basic style you will be wearing with the headband.

3. Wrap the ribbon around your head as a headband. To tie the ribbon in a bow at the top of your head, place the center of the ribbon at the back center of your neck and pull the ends of the ribbon around your head to the top. To tie the ribbon at the nape of your neck beneath your hair, place the center of the ribbon at the top of your head and pull the ends of the ribbon around your head to the nape of your neck.

4. Hold the ends of the ribbon together with one hand and tuck the ends of your hair behind the ribbon headband to ensure your hair looks the way you want it to look.

5. Tie the ends of the ribbon together in a double knot after making sure the ribbon is snugly tight around your head. If you are tying the ribbon at the top of your head, tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow.

Tips & Warnings

• Cut shorter lengths of ribbons for children's headbands.

• Experiment with different widths of ribbon.

• Wear ribbon headbands with your hair down or pull your hair back into a ponytail and wear a ribbon headband along with the ponytail.

• Push a ribbon bow at the top of your head off-center slightly to the left or the right for a fashionable look.
