How to Make Pom Poms for Shoes
Pom poms may be made in numerous sizes depending on the template. The best yarn to use is a plush, fluffy yarn. The thinner the yarn, the more needed to create a puffy pom pom. Pom poms may be used for decorations or creating unique and adorable animals.

Compass Draw two 2 1/2 inch circles on the cardboard. Draw a 1-inch circle in the middle of the two 2 1/2 inch circles using the same compass point. Cut out the 1 inch and 2 1/2 inch circles. When this is completed there will be two doughnut-shaped pieces of cardboard.

Place the two cardboard doughnuts together, matching the center holes. Cut the yarn into manageable 5- to 6-foot lengths. Cut one piece of yarn 12 inches long and set aside to tie the pom pom when complete. Begin winding the yard around the cardboard doughnut, starting on the outside edge then going through the center hole. Continue wrapping until the yarn length is used. Repeat the process adding more yarn lengths until the cardboard is covered. Repeat for one more layer. The more layers of yarn the puffier the pom pom.

Scissors Use sharp scissors and insert the point between the layers of yarn and the two pieces of cardboard. Cut the yarn around the entire circle using the middle of the two pieces of cardboard as a guide. Use your non-cutting hand and sandwich the yarn in the center of the circle so it stays in place.

Wrap the 12-inch piece of yarn in between the two cardboard circles. Pull tight and secure the piece of yarn using a double knot. Slide the cardboard off each side of the pom pom. Shake the pom pom and trim off any uneven threads. Tie to shoes.
