How to Burn a Bin File to DVD

How to Burn a Bin File to DVD thumbnail
BIN/CUE files comprise a complete virtual CD on your hard drive.

A ".bin" file is the second part of a BIN/CUE disc image--which, in turn, is a full virtual copy of a CD or DVD that has been placed on a computer's hard drive. A BIN/CUE disc image--or any disc image, for that matter--can only be accessed by specialized programs that act as a virtual CD or DVD drive on your computer or by burning it to a CD or DVD. In order to burn a .bin file to a DVD and have it be readable as an actual DVD, you will need a corresponding .cue file. Fortunately, if you do not have a .cue file to accompany the .bin file, you can make one with relative ease.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with CD/DVD-R/RW drive
  • CD/DVD writing software

Instructions

  1. Creating a .cue File

    • 1

Open "Notepad" or a similar text-editing program.

    • 2

Type the following text into the text window of the program:

      FILE "X.bin" BINARY
      TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
      INDEX 01 00:00:00

Replace "X" with the full name of the .bin file you wish to burn to a DVD.

    • 3

Save the text file as "X.cue," replacing "X" with the full, exact name of the corresponding .bin file, making sure that you save the new .cue file in the same location as your .bin file. Once you have done this, exit the text editor.

    Burning the DVD

    • 4

Insert your blank disc into the CD/DVD-R/RW drive of the computer, then open your preferred CD/DVD-writing program.

    • 5

Select the option that allows you to burn an image file to a disc. This will be labeled differently depending on the program you are using, but common labels include "burn image file to disc," "create disc from image file" and "write ISO to disc."

    • 6

Select the .cue file you created in the preceding section as the "source" to be burned to the blank disc. Both the .cue and the .bin file will be burned to the disk as a full DVD once you have done this.

    • 7

Click the "Burn" button. Your preferred CD/DVD-writing software will now burn your .bin file onto the blank disc.
