How to Unlock a Motorola V325 Cell Phone

If you want to switch the network of your V325, you will have to swap out the carrier-specific chip in the battery chamber. If your V325 came locked from the original carrier, the phone won’t let calls through with a new carrier’s chip inside. This is a software issue separate from any contractual obligation you may have to stay with the network. To unlock your V325, you will need an unlock code.

  1. Pay Sites

    • 1

Open the Motorola V325 page at Cell Corner, Unlock It Now or GSM Unlock International. (See Resources.) All three are pay sites. Unlock It Now and GSM Unlock International offer money-back guarantees in case the code won’t remove the carrier lock.

    • 2

Remove the V325’s battery. When the site you select in Step 1 prompts for it, submit the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number in your V325’s battery compartment. Each site in Step 1 uses your phone’s unique IMEI to generate a phone-specific code. Pay for the unlock code. In case you don’t use a credit card, all three sites accept PayPal. You’ll either get the code on screen immediately or by email within a few hours, depending on the site you chose in Step 1.

    • 3

Insert the original carrier’s chip into the battery chamber, just in case the unlock code won’t work without it. (The codes at Cell Corner are network-specific, for example.) Put the battery back in to have power for the next step.

    • 4

Enter your V325’s phone mode. Enter the code into your keypad the way it appears in the email. If you received the unlock code “A5986J Send” for example, then type in 259865, and then “send” the code to your V325 by pressing the Talk-Send-Call button.

    • 5

Slot the new network’s chip into the battery compartment. Test whether the carrier lock was removed by making an outgoing call. If the call goes through and there’s no error message, you’re done. Otherwise, repeat Steps 3 and 4 a few times. If it still won’t work, contact the site you’re working with so it can remedy the situation.

    Free Code from Original Network

    • 6

Call your original network’s customer service or go to one of its local stores. Use a landline to dial in instead of your V325 so you can give the IMEI and test if the phone works.

    • 7

Ask for a code to unlock the carrier lock. Read off the IMEI from inside the V325 battery compartment. Slot the old network’s chip under the battery. Put the battery in so there’s power for the next step.

    • 8

Enter the code as the representative reads it to you. Switch the new network’s chip for the old chip. Test the code by making an outgoing call with the V325. Only when you can should you let the representative go.

    • 9

Call the customer service department again if the first representative didn’t know how to help. Be polite since the representative leave notes for each in your file which could affect the cooperation you get in subsequent contacts.
