How to Reattach Vinyl Siding

How to Reattach Vinyl Siding thumbnail
It's simple to reattach loose pieces of vinyl.

Pieces of your house's vinyl siding can become loose or fall off over time, or thanks to storm damage. You can reattach the siding yourself with no expensive professional help. Vinyl siding gets stiff and brittle in cold weather, so don't try to reattach the siding when it's cold out or you might crack it while you work. Make repairs when the temperature is moderate. To determine if the weather is warm enough for this repair, feel the loose vinyl siding to see if it is stiff or flexible. If it is flexible, it's safe to proceed. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Hook a panel of vinyl siding on the channel of the strip of siding below the bare area. The bottom of each panel hooks onto the top of the panel below, so you will work from the bottom up.

    • 2

Hold the panel of siding in place and hammer nails into the pre-punched slots in the panel. Do not hammer the nails in all the way to leave wiggle room for the vinyl to expand and contract with the weather.

    • 3

Install the next panel up until all the fallen panels are reattached. After you have nailed the top panel in place, push the bottom of the panel above it into place, hooked on the top of the newly installed panel.
