Upgrading a video card, such as the Radeon X1650 Pro, is typically done by removing the card from the computer case and installing a new card. However, if you do not want to open the case to replace the card you can perform an upgrade by installing new software drivers for the device. You can do this by downloading the latest software drivers from the manufacturer of the video card.

Instructions

      Go to the Radeon X1650 Technology page on the AMD website (see References). Click the option near the top of the screen for “Support and Drivers.”

      Click on the “Download graphics drivers” under the Download Drivers section of the page.

      Select your operating system from the first column.

      Select Radeon from the second column.

      Select Radeon X1xxx Series from the third column and then click the “GO” button.

      Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “Download” button for the Catalyst Software Suite.

      Select where on your system to save the setup file. Save the file to the Local Disk (C:) or to your desktop.

      Double-click the setup file to begin the installation for the Catalyst Software Suite. Click the “Next” button to continue through the installer and upgrade the software drivers for the video card.

      Restart your computer, if necessary, to complete the software driver upgrade.

Tips & Warnings

  • Updated drivers can add additional capabilities to the video card.

  • Selecting the wrong type of video card will cause you do download the incorrect software update for your video card.
