How to Wire HDTV to a Surround Sound Stereo

Connect an HDTV to your surround sound system.

To fully enjoy the high-definition programming of your HD television you need to wire the set to a surround sound stereo. To connect the HDTV to the surround sound stereo system you only need a single HDMI cable. This is the same cable you use to connect high-definition video devices to the TV.

Things You'll Need

• HDTV
• Surround sound receiver
• HDMI cable

Instructions

1. Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI "Out" port on the back of the television. Although there are multiple HDMI ports on the TV, this is clearly marked "Out."

2. Insert the opposite end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI "In" port on the surround sound stereo receiver.

3. Power on the HDTV and the surround sound system.

4. Press the "HDMI" button on the receiver, and all the audio from the TV should play through the stereo system.
