How to Find a Binary File

Save

Binary files have the extension BIN. This file type is usually a backup of a CD or DVD saved on your hard drive. If you forget where you saved a particular BIN file you can use native controls in Windows to search for your lost file in case you have need of bringing back a CD or DVD that was lost or destroyed.

  • Click on the "Start" menu in Windows and select "Search." A search window will appear.

  • Click on the text box that says "Name."

  • Type in ".Bin." Click on the "Search" button. It will now search your computer for all your BIN files. When you see the BIN file you want appear in the side box, click "Stop."

  • Right-click on your BIN file and select "Open containing folder." This will open the folder where your BIN file is so you know exactly where it was.
