Angel Wing begonias get their name from their unique wing-shaped leaves.

The tropical plant begonia belongs to the violet family and has hundreds of species and varieties. Begonias are cultivated for their pink or red flowers or their big showy leaves. This plant grows as a low shrub and is divided into three groups, fibrous, tuberous and rhizomatous. The Angel Leaf or Angel Wing begonias are a fibrous-rooted plant. As this is of a tropical nature, the plant enjoys humidity and warm temperatures. Grow new Angel Wings by taking cuttings from a healthy begonia plant. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Angel Wing begonias
  • Sharp scissors
  • Peat moss
  • Perlite
  • Hand shovel
  • Small clay pot
  • Water
  • Clear plastic bag
  • Rubber band
  • Fertilizer

Instructions

    • 1

      Mix the soils in the clay pot. Use half a pot of peat moss and half a pot of Perlite. Mix them together with a hand shovel.

      Choose an Angel wing shoot with at least two pairs of leaves and a growing point.

      Snip the stem just below the top pair of leaves. Remove the bottom pair of leaves.

      Place the cutting in the prepared soil. Plant the bottom end of the cutting about an inch deep in the soil.

      Water your plant well but do not over saturate.

      Cover the plant with a plastic bag. Wrap a rubber band around the bottom of the pot to create a humidity shelter for the plant.

      Place the plant under fluorescent or indirect light for about a week. Then remove the bag.

      Water the plant when the soil becomes dry. Fertilize the plant with houseplant fertilizer every few months.
