How to Open Zip Files on Windows 2000

ZIP files are a common method for packing multiple files together on a PC, either for archiving purposes or to send documents over the Internet to another person. Unfortunately, Windows 2000 cannot natively open ZIP files using its own software. Hence, you will need to look for an alternative way to open your ZIP files.

Instructions

    • 1

Download WinZip and install it onto your PC. You can then right-click on the ZIP file, then click "Open in WinZip" in order to access the contents of your drive. Note that WinZip is not a free program.

    • 2

Use 7-ZIP to access your ZIP files. 7-Zip is free, open-source software that works with ZIP files, allowing you to access, create and edit ZIP files and their contents without having to pay for any software.

    • 3

Use an archive manager such as BitZipper on your PC. BitZipper is capable of accessing 30 different filetypes, including ZIP formats. This is useful if you intend to use several different file compression types other than ZIP.

Tips & Warnings

  • Text files tend to compress better than other files.
