Make simple bracelets out of yarn.

Yarn bracelets are commonly referred to as friendship bracelets. These bracelets can be as simple or as complex as you wish, and there are many techniques you can use to make them. Consider varying the appearance of yarn bracelets made with the same technique by adding beads or making them with different colored yarn. You can complete simple yarn bracelets in a short amount of time.

Instructions

  1. Braided Bracelet

    • 1

Cut six pieces of yarn measuring 24 inches each. Tie the strings together at one end with an overhand knot, leaving a fringe of about 2 inches extending from the knot.

    • 2

Use a strip of masking tape to tape the fringe to a table. This will free both hands to work on the bracelet and ensure that your work is even.

    • 3

Divide the strings into three sets of two strands each. Braid the strands together until your bracelet measures about 7 inches.

    • 4

Tie an overhand knot, leaving a fringe beyond the knot. Cut the fringe so that it measures about 2 inches, equal to the length of the fringe at the other end. To wear the bracelet, place it around your wrist and tie the ends together.

    Twisted Bracelet

    • 5

Cut six or more pieces of yarn that are each 24 inches long. Use a strip of masking tape to tape one end of the group of strings to a table.

    • 6

Twist the strings around each other until the twisted part of the yarn is 17 inches long.

    • 7

Fold the twisted strands in half. While holding the end of the twisted strands secure in one hand, place one finger of the other hand against the middle of the twisted yarn and fold it in half. The twisted yarn will twist around itself.

    • 8

Remove the taped end of the twisted strings from the table. Tie both ends together with a square knot. To wear the bracelet, place it around your wrist, open the looped end and feed the knot through to secure the bracelet.
