Hang art. This is the most traditional approach, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. Pictures or paintings work well, but also consider other options. Use the wall as a display area. Put up shelves on which to showcase collections of sports memorabilia, shells, dolls, clocks, stamps, dried leaves or coins. Or turn the wall into an art gallery and hang metal pieces, decorative tiles, driftwood or even your own sculptures and photography. Another fun idea is hanging framed posters from your favorite movies.

Make a faux window. This creative and unique decoration not only is eye-catching but can also be a focal point or conversation piece. Start with an old multipaned window: paint or stain the frame, sand it to remove old paint or carve designs into it. Then dress up the panes by gluing on photos, mirrors, tiles, wrapping paper or whatever you like. You can also frost the glass or stencil on designs. Once done, attach hooks to the window, hang it on the wall, and just like that, a plain brick wall is all dressed up.

Painted brick can look great. Paint a mural. You may not automatically think of painting brick, but it can be done easily and with good results. An added benefit is the texture added by the natural roughness of the brick: this lends depth to the mural. You can paint a city skyline, a beach or pastoral scene, an underwater seascape featuring fish and coral or whatever strikes your fancy. Hire a local artist to paint your mural for you, or find do-it-yourself kits.
