Things You'll Need
- 3-gallon pot with drain holes
- Potting soil
- Tomato seedling
- 1/4-inch dowel, 24 to 30 inches long
- String
- Plant food
Instructions

-
1
Fill the pot with potting mixture. Leave 2 inches of space from the top of the pot and the soil line.
-
2
Plant the tomato seedling in the pot. Make the hole in the pot deep enough that the entire root ball is covered, plus 2 inches of dirt on the top. Tomato seedlings may be buried deeper than their root ball--roots will develop along the stem, strengthening the base of the plant.

3
Press the dirt firmly around the base of the tomato plant as the hole is filled.
-
4
Place a 1/4-inch dowel 24 to 30 inches long into the dirt next to the tomato seedling and tie the tomato plant to the dowel stake with the string to provide the plant with support. Gently tie the trunk of the tomato to the dowel as the plant grows.
-
5
Follow the plant food manufacturer's directions on the label and give the tomato plant some fertilizer along with enough water to make the soil in the pot damp.
-
6
Place pot in full sun. Tomato plants require at least six hours of sun per day.
