How to Lock an Excursion Tailgate
The Ford Excursion, in production from 2000 to 2005, is the largest SUV that Ford has ever manufactured. Equipped with a Tri-door, which has double side-swinging doors and a liftgate, the Excursion allows its user to load supplies and equipment into the cargo area with ease. After loading the vehicle, pick from three options to lock the rear Tri-door.

Locking With the Key

Push the left cargo door toward the back of the Excursion, closing it. Then close the right cargo door of the Excursion. Both doors should be securely closed, flat and without any visible gaps where the two doors meet.

Grip the handle on the liftgate and pull it down. Push it closed. It will snap into place.

Lock the tailgate by placing the key into the keyhole located over the left-hand door and turning the key to the right.
Locking With the Power Door Locks

Close the doors and liftgate according to the method described in Section 1, Step 1.

Go to the driver's door and open it. Locate the power door lock lever on the inside of the driver's door.

Push down on the side of the power door lock lever that has the picture of the lock. You will hear the locks engage.
Locking With the Key Fob or Remote

Close the Tri-door according to the method described in Step 1 of Section 1.

Press the "Lock" symbol on the key fob or remote once while standing in close proximity to the Excursion. You should notice the parking lamps flash one time if the liftgate is locked.

Press the button with the "Lock" symbol once again, within three seconds, to ensure that the liftgate is closed and locked. You will hear the doors lock again, the horn will chirp once and the parking lamps will flash one time.

Tips & Warnings
When locking the Excursion with the key fob or remote, the horn will chirp twice if the Tri-door is not properly closed.
