How to Make a Lemonade Stand Sign

Refreshing, ice-cold lemonade

Lemonade stands are a simple way for children and adults to make extra money. For many children, lemonade stands are their first forays into the practice of exchanging money for goods. On a hot summer day, few treats are more refreshing than a cold glass of lemonade. Make a sign for your lemonade stand that is attractive and functional to lure in customers and to make the most of your time selling a little taste of sunshine.

Things You'll Need

• 22-inch-by-28-inch poster board
• Scissors
• Markers
• 2 paint stir sticks
• Duct tape
• Lamination machine

Instructions

1. Cut the poster board to the size you want your sign to be. The size requirements will vary depending on where you plan to place the sign. If you will mount it to the front of your stand, you may want to leave the poster board intact. To make smaller signs that can be placed in other locations to invite customers, consider cutting the poster board smaller to make 8 1/2-inch-by-11-inch signs.

2. Design the front of the poster with the appropriate words and images, such as cut-out pictures of lemons and lemonade or illustrations of lemons and a cup. Advertise that you are selling lemonade, and include the price you're charging. If you are planning to offer different size cups, show the cups and their relative sizes and prices; for example, a 16-oz. cup costs $1.

3. Attach two paint stir sticks to the back of the poster board with duct tape. Space them about 9 to 12 inches apart to provide enough support to keep the sign from bending. If you're posting the signs elsewhere, attach them to community sign posts with the duct tape; tape will secure them, whereas push pins can be easily removed. Papers can also be easily torn from push pins.

4. Laminate the signs if you plan to use them for multiple years. Laminating is a useful way to preserve paper items, as the laminate protects against weather elements as well as normal wear and tear from sitting in storage.
