Homemade Styrofoam Airplane Wings
Styrofoam model airplane kits have been an entertaining craft project for young children and parents for many years. Unfortunately though it makes decent model planes, Styrofoam is not a very sturdy material and is prone to breaking. You do not have to go out and buy a whole, new airplane kit just to get one replacement wing. You can make your own Styrofoam wings by following a few steps.

1
Draw an outline of the wing's shape on the top of the Styrofoam block. If you have the actual broken Styrofoam wing from your model plane, place it on top of the Styrofoam block, then trace around the wing. You will need a very large block of Styrofoam to accommodate the various sizes of model airplane wings that there may be.

2
Use the marker and ruler to draw a 1-inch border around the wing shape. Measure 3 inches down from the top of the Styrofoam block and draw a long, straight line under the wing outline and form a three-dimensional rectangle around the outline. Cut this 3-D box out of the Styrofoam block.

Cut away the excess Styrofoam from around the wing outline. Shape the Styrofoam into a wing, observing the thickness and curvature of the broken wing and using that as a guide. Gradually pare down the wing with the Styrofoam cutter and cut off the uneven parts of the wing. Don't forget to leave a notch at the end of the wing so that it can be attached to the plane.

Repeat the above steps with the remainder of the Styrofoam to make the second wing.
