How to Hook Up a VCR & DTV Box to a TV

A digital TV box converts source signals such as cable or satellite service into analog signals for playback on older television sets. By hooking up a VCR between the DTV box and the TV, programming can be recorded to videotape. It's not necessary to record with the VCR just to watch TV shows; the component can be left on and the signal from the converter box will pass through it to the TV with coaxial cable connections.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect a coaxial cable from the RF OUT jack on the back of the converter box to the RF or Coaxial IN jack on the back of the VCR by turning the threaded couplers on the ends of the cable around each jack. The metal pin inside the cable inserts straight into the hole on each jack.

Attach a second cable from the RF or coaxial OUT to TV jack on the back of the VCR to the RF IN jack on the back panel of the television. Hand-tighten each connection to hold the cable in place.

    • 3

Plug in the equipment and press the "Scan" button on the front of the converter box to program the channels.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the remote control that comes with the converter box to change TV channels.

  • Turn on the VCR to watch TV, regardless of whether a video recording will be made.

  • Unplug all three components from the power while hooking up the coaxial cables.
