How to Measure the Sleeve Length for a Button Down Shirt

It is very easy to determine sleeve length.

Measuring sleeve length is a simple process. It is not necessary to go to a tailor to have measurements taken. The sleeve length is the length from the middle of the back of the neck to the wrist. The process of measuring sleeve length is the same for men and women.

Things You'll Need

• Cloth measuring tape
• Assistant

Instructions

1. Have the person for whom the measurement is being taken bend one arm 90 degrees and place the hand of that arm on the hip.

2. Place the measuring tape at the center of the back of the neck and run the measuring tape along the bent arm to the wrist, keeping the tape taut.

3. Read the measurements in inches: This is the total length of the sleeve.

4. Repeat the process for the other arm.

Tips & Warnings

• For many people, one arm is slightly longer than the other, so it is important to take measurements for both arms if the measurement is for a garment that will be tailored to the individual.
