How to Replace the Deck Belt on an MTD Riding Lawn Mower
When you mow with your MTD riding lawn mower for several seasons, the deck belt that runs the blade pulleys will begin to fray and get weak and possibly break. You will have to replace the MTD riding mower deck belt in order get your rider to drive and mow properly again. You can easily replace the deck belt with a few supplies in your own driveway. Unscrew the three belt guard pins next the the pulley under the MTD riding lawn mower engine. Use the proper sized wrench to unscrew each belt guard pin.

Slip the belt off the pulley under the engine.

Adjust the mower deck height lever to the lowest setting so you can easily access the deck blade pulleys.

Unscrew the belt guard pins surrounding each pulley on top of the MTD riding mower deck. Slip the old belt off. Put the new belt around the pulleys. Screw the belt guard pins back into place.

Adjust the mower deck height lever to the highest setting.

Slip the belt around the pulley under the engine. Replace the belt guard pins around the pulley under the engine.
