How Can You Get Shiny Pokemon on Sapphire?

Shiny Pokémon are identical to their normal counterparts, save for the fact that they have slightly different colorings (a shiny Zubat, for example, is dark green rather than blue). Any wild Pokémon can be shiny, even starter Pokémon and legendary Pokémon. However, as you’re wandering through the wild looking for Pokémon, you have a one in 8,192 chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon--making them incredibly rare. Fortunately, in Pokémon Sapphire you can improve your odds of encountering shiny Pokémon by using special gameplay tactics, or by using an Action Replay cheat device.

Things You'll Need

  • Action Replay for Game Boy Advance (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Without Action Replay

    • 1

Increase your odds of encountering Pokémon in general by keeping a Pokémon with the “Illuminate” ability at the front of your party, and riding your bike through tall grass--as Pokémon will attack more frequently when you’re on your bike.

    • 2

Get a shiny starter Pokémon by starting a new game, going to Professor Birch, and checking the three starters to see if any of them are shiny. Continue resetting the game, selecting “New Game,” and inspecting the Pokémon until you find one.

    • 3

Get a shiny legendary Pokémon by saving the game before you initiate combat. Initiate combat with the legendary Pokémon. If it’s not shiny, restart the game, load your save file, and try again. Repeat this process until the Pokémon is shiny.

    With Action Replay

    • 4

Connect the Action Replay to your Game Boy Advance and insert the Pokémon Sapphire Version game cartridge.

    • 5

Select “Code Entry” from the menu and input the master code: A2E564FE 0FB58A54 B4564EFE 23F44BF2.

    • 6

Enter the following code to make all Pokémon shiny: 8636B1D6 CA4AB2A9 18452A7D DDE55BCC.

    • 7

Start the game as usual and head to an area of tall grass. All Pokémon you encounter will be shiny. The Pokémon you capture will remain shiny even if you disable the code later.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Action Replay code will cause some minor glitches, such as the Pokémon having weird names (which you can correct by visiting the name rater in Slateport City). Also most Pokémon will be female.
