How to Mount Blinds to a Steel Door

How to Mount Blinds to a Steel Door thumbnail
Hanging blinds on a metal door doesn't take long.

You can mount blinds on a steel door the same way you mount blinds on a wood door except you must use different screws to hold the blinds. Wood screws will not anchor into a metal door. Use self-drilling screws to anchor into a metal door to secure the top and bottom brackets of the blinds. Use two sets of brackets to keep the blind from swinging each time you open or close the door. This is a job that you can do in no more time than it takes to mount blinds to a wood door. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Open the blind so that it covers the length and width of the window. Hold the blind up to the door in the position you want to anchor it. Place a pencil mark at each end of the blind, which is the general location you will install the two top brackets for the blind.

    • 2

Measure from the first bracket across the door to the required distance you will locate the second bracket from first bracket. Adjust the second pencil mark you made to comply with the instructions. Hold the second bracket in place, and use the pencil mark to color the screw hole locations onto the door.

    • 3

Insert a metal drill bit that is two sizes smaller than the self-drilling screws. Drill pilot holes through the marked screw hole locations for the first bracket. Place the bracket on the door, and insert a self-drilling screw in each hole. Tighten the screws with a drill.

    • 4

Place a level across the first bracket and the top of the door. Adjust the height and screw hole locations if necessary so that the second bracket is level with the first bracket. Repeat step 3 to install the bracket.

    • 5

Insert the top of the blind into the brackets, and secure it in place. Stretch the blind to reach where you want it at the bottom of the door. Mark both outside edges, and repeat steps 3 and 4 to finish installing the blinds.
