How to Make an Employee Suggestion Box
Each day you try to make your business stay profitable, and a place where people will want to work. You may rely on your executive team for many of your business ideas. However, with the help of an employee suggestion box, you can also investigate ideas your employees may have on improving working conditions, improving company productivity and even marketing a new product.

- Lockable receipt box
- Black paint
- Paint brush
- 3 inch by 5 inch cards
- Pens
- Tape

Designate an area in the breakroom or common area where you can put a suggestion box. It needs to be visible and accessible to all employees.

Use a metal receipt box with a slot opening at the top. Mark the box with the words "Employee Suggestion Box" on the outside in black paint large enough for everyone to be able to read.

Place a stack of 3-inch by 5-inch cards next to the suggestion box along with a box of pens.

Write instructions on how to submit a suggestion on one of the 3-inch by 5-inch cards and tape the card to the side of the box. The instructions should ask employees to write their suggestions clearly, be as detailed as possible and give the option of providing their name and department.

Circulate a company memo or email announcing the implementation of the new suggestion box. Let employees know where it is located and remind everyone that they can be anonymous.

Tips & Warnings
Check and empty the suggestion box at least once a week. This prevents suggestions from piling up, and lets employees see that management is interested in their employees' ideas which will encourage continued and/or more use of the suggestion box.
Acknowledge the suggestions you consider worthwhile in the company newsletter or with a company memo. The more that employees see management using the suggestion box, the more inspired employees will be to submit their ideas.
