Fashion rings come in all shapes and styles. Whether you're looking to design a fashion ring for a special occasion or simply for daily wear, you can design your own fashion ring with a little research and a bit of your time. 1
Gather pictures of rings, using magazines, jewelry catalogs and jewelry brochures from jewelry stores. You don't have to like the entire ring, but pull photos of the design features and elements of the rings you find that you like. If you have a camera phone, take pictures of rings you see people wearing or in stores when you're shopping.
-
2
Mark the design features you like. Circle, place a checkmark or somehow denote the design features on ring photos that you want to incorporate into your ring design, so that you'll remember what you like when you sit down to sketch out your ring design.
-
-
3
Select the style of ring you want to design. Decide if it will be a simple band, a wide band with a stone, a cocktail ring, a metal-only ring, or something else.
-
4
Select the stone. Also decide on the shape of the stone you want to use.
-
5
Pick the metal. For example, you may choose silver, white-gold or yellow-gold.
-
6
Sketch your design, putting all of the elements and design features you've chosen into one ring. You don't have to be an artist to draw out what you want, so make a quick sketch and label items on the ring so that you can discuss the design with a jeweler.
-
7
Meet with a jeweler. Discuss the design features and elements of the ring with the jeweler, including the style of the ring, the metal, any stones and design features. Find out if the jeweler can make the ring you've designed, how long it will take and how much it will cost.
