How to Program a Keyless Entry Remote for a 2000 Nissan Maxima

Program your Maxima key-less entry remote.

A 2000 Nissan Maxima comes equipped with a key-less entry system that uses a remote control key fob to lock and unlock the vehicle from a distance. It also features a panic button on the remote in case of emergency. If a remote is lost or broken, a new one must be purchased and programmed to work with the vehicle. In some vehicles, this will require a trip to a mechanic or locksmith, but the key-less entry of this model can be programmed by the owner in less than five minutes. A new remote is inexpensive at many online retailers.

Instructions

1. Sit in the vehicle and close all doors. Lock the doors using the Lock button located on the driver's door.

2. Place the key in the ignition and then remove it completely. Do not turn the ignition with the key in it. Repeat this step six times in a row. Wait for the vehicle hazard lights to flash to signify that the vehicle has entered programming mode.

3. Reinsert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position.

4. Press any button on the remote within five seconds of turning the key in the ignition. Wait for the hazard lights to flash to signify successful programming of the remote. Repeat this step with any other remotes at this time.

5. Turn the ignition to the "Off" position and remove the key from the ignition. Use the Unlock button on the driver's door to unlock the doors. Test the remotes from outside the vehicle.
