Whether you're trying to make your house address more visible from the street, going to cheer for your favorite player at a football game or need something to keep track of a game score at Little League, you can create large number signs with just a few inexpensive supplies from the craft, dollar or home goods store. The key is to protect your number signs from weather and frequent use, so you can use them over and over again.
Things You'll Need
- 5 pieces of 1-inch thick foam core board
- Box cutter
- Cling wrap
- 10 dowels
- Thick black marker
Use a ruler to draw a straight line down the middle of a piece of foam core board.
Trace the outline of the first number on the left side of the foam core board with a marker. Use the entire width of the board for the number.
Trace the outline of the second number on the right side of the board.
Cut the foam board in half with the box cutter, then cut around each number to cut it out. Cut on the inside of the marker number outlines so that no marker lines are left.
Wrap each number in cling wrap, smoothing any bubbles with your fingers. Use scissors to cut away any excess wrap.
Wrap a dowel in cling wrap, then twist the edges at the bottom and cut off with scissors. Insert the dowel into the bottom of the foam core board at the base of the number.
Tips & Warnings
- Each piece of thick foam core board makes two numbers. If you need two of the same number (such as two eights), cut out one number, then use the other to trace the second so they're exactly the same size. If you don't need the whole range of numbers (zero to nine), just trace and cut out the ones you do.
- Foam core board also comes in standard and neon colors, if you want a specific hue for your large numbers or to make them more visible in a crowd.
