Erase your iPod library and sync your iTunes music to your iPod automatically.

One of the firsts tasks most iPod users learn is to erase and synchronize music to their iPod using the automatic sync feature. Unfortunately, many first-time users may unwittingly erase their entire iPod library, thinking they were actually adding new content to their existing media. However, the erase and sync function of automatic sync mode can be useful when you would like your iPod to mirror your ever-changing iTunes music library.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your iPod to iTunes by plugging your iPod into your computer with the iPod's USB cable. iTunes will likely automatically open, unless you have changed the settings. Open iTunes if it doesn't load.

    • 2

Select "Erase and Sync" if that dialogue window appears. This will only appear if you have connected your iPod to a new computer. If it doesn't appear, proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Click on your iPod's name in the left pane of the iTunes window. Notice the new tabs that appear.

    • 4

Click the "Music" tab, then click the box next to "Sync Music."

    • 5

Select "Apply." Your music library will automatically sync to your iTunes music library as it deletes and adds songs accordingly. Do not disconnect your iPod during this process.
