A General Education Degree (GED) is an excellent option for people who are not able to complete high school. According to the Texas Education Agency, high-scoring GED graduates outperform 40 percent of graduating high school seniors. The agency adds that 95 percent of U.S. employers view GED graduates and traditional high school graduates on the same level.

      Confirm that you are eligible. In order to be eligible for your GED in Texas, you need to be at least 18 years old, have a government issued photo ID, be a resident of the state, and you cannot be enrolled in high school or possess a diploma. You can test at the age of 17 if you have parental permission. You can test at 16 if you are in the care of a state agency, under a court order, or in a Job Corps training program.
