How to Update Internet Explorer for Vista

Internet Explorer is a web browser produced by Microsoft that comes bundled with Windows operating systems such as Vista. Microsoft periodically releases updates for Internet Explorer which can enhance the security of the program or add new functionality and features. If you have a computer that runs on Windows Vista and have not updated your computer recently, running the Windows update process can allow you to install updates for Internet Explorer.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," "All Programs" and then "Windows Update." Alternatively you can open Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and then "Windows Update."

    • 2

Click the option on the left side of the update window called "Check for Updates."

    • 3

Wait until your system is done searching for updates. This process may take several minutes.

    • 4

Click "View available updates" or "X Optional updates are available" (X will be the number of optional updates available). A list of the updates that you can install on your PC will appear.

    • 5

Search the list for any updates for Internet Explorer, check the boxes next to any of these updates, click "OK" and then "Install Updates." This step works for Vista Service Pack 1. If you have a different Service Pack version, you may simply be able to click "Install" after selecting the desired updates instead of clicking "OK" and "Install Updates."

    • 6

Accept the license agreement that appears, if necessary, wait for the update to install and then restart your PC.
