How to Register for an MSN Email Address

If you want to register for an MSN email account, it takes little time to do so--and even less money. MSN's free email service is called MSN Hotmail. To register for an email account, you must create a Windows Live ID, which will serve as an email address as well as give you access to other MSN services, such MSN Messenger and MSN Music.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to MSN.com and click the "Hotmail" link at the top of the page so you can register for an email address.

    • 2

Click the "Sign Up" button. A new page will open and you will be asked to create a Windows Live ID. You can access your MSN Hotmail account with the Windows Live ID.

    • 3

Enter the user name you want to use in the box next to "Windows Live ID" and click the "Check Availability" link to see if the name is available. If it isn't, come up with something different or use one of the suggested options.

    • 4

Enter password that is at least six characters long in the form next to "Create a password." You can use any combination of letters, numbers, and typographic symbols such as periods. Verify the password in the next form.

    • 5

Type another email address you have in the "Alternate Email Address" box. If you forget your password, you can have it sent to this email address. If you don't have another email address, click "Or choose a security question for password reset" to choose and provide an answer to a security question.

    • 6

Enter your personal details, including your name, country, state, ZIP code, gender, and birth year.

    • 7

Type the code from the verification image in the box next to "Characters" and click "I accept" to finish registering your account. You will be taken to your new inbox.
