How to Make a Science Project Look Like a Brochure

If you're creating a display board for your science project, it is important to make your board stand out from the others at the science fair. One creative way to do this is to make your science project display look like a brochure. Since a science fair display is usually on a tri-fold board, it is easy to make it look like a tri-fold brochure.

Things You'll Need

  • Scrap paper
  • Pencil
  • Tri-fold board
  • Construction paper
  • Computer and printer paper
  • Glue stick
  • Graphs, illustrations, photos (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the piece of scrap paper into thirds so that it looks like a brochure. To do this, fold one short edge until it reaches two-thirds of the way across the paper, and then press on the crease. Then fold the other short edge in the opposite direction until it reaches the first fold, and press on the second crease.

    • 2

Unfold the paper, and label the inside panels "A," "B" and "C" from left to right.

    • 3

Turn the paper over, and label the outside panels "D," "E" and "F" from left to right.

    • 4

Sketch out a plan on the scrap paper for what the inside of your brochure display will look like. Make sure to include the most attractive visuals from your science project on section "B." (This may be a graph of your data, a picture of your experiment, or large lettering that shows a surprising conclusion.) Then include the rest of the information from your experiment on sections "A" through "C," progressing from section "A" (for the introduction and materials) to "B" (for procedure and data) to "C" for conclusion and discussion. This progression should be flexible based on the amount of information you need to include in each section.

    • 5

Sketch out a plan on the scrap paper for what the outside of your brochure display will look like. Section "F" will be the cover of your brochure, and it should be eye-catching and include the title of your project. Section "D" will be the inside flap, and it should include the key points that you'll want the judges to consider about your experiment. Section "E" will be the back of your brochure, and it should include bits and pieces of additional information, such as resources used in your research, ideas for future experiments, and a list of people who helped you with your project.

    • 6

Type up each section of your science project, using the scrap paper sketch as a guide. Title each section in colored ink and a larger font, and print out the sections separately.

    • 7

Cut out pieces of construction paper to create a 1-inch frame around each section. Back the typed sections on the frames with the gluestick, and then attach them to the "brochure" tri-fold board, using the scrap paper sketch as a guide for where each section belongs.

Tips & Warnings

  • When the judges are walking around but no one is at your display, fold the display board so that the cover shows. As the judges or other viewers pass by, unfold the display board to show the rest of your "brochure."

  • Do not use liquid glue to attach the typed sections to the backings. Doing so can cause the paper to wrinkle and can ruin the professional look of the display.
