How to Install Directx 9.0C Compatible Graphics Adapter

Save

DirectX 9.0C is one of the most up-to-date versions of the Windows graphics application. Most video games that run on a Windows computer require you to be completely up on the latest version of DirectX (the software often comes with an upgrade on a provided installation CD). However, having the installed software is all for naught if you do not have a DirectX-compatible graphics adapter (also known as a graphics card).

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Driver installation CD
  • Look on the side packaging of the graphics card before purchasing the card. On the box it states if it is DirectX compatible. Pick out a card that has this printed on the label.

  • Power down your computer and disconnect all of the cables connected to the system. Removes the screws from the backside of the case with a Phillips screwdriver, then slide the case off to expose the inside of the computer.

  • Look for the large computer card running top to bottom on the inside of the computer. This is the motherboard. All equipment connects, in some shape or form, to the motherboard. Along the backside of the card, facing the rear of the computer are a series of horizontal card slots. These are PCI slots and allow you to install additional internal hardware, including the DirectX9.0C graphics adapter card.

  • Slide the graphics adapter into one of the available card slots. Along the side of the slot is a locking switch. Once the card is inserted completely, pull the locking switch up. This clamps down onto the graphics card, securing the connection.

  • Close the computer case, rescrew the screws and plug the cables back into the system. Power on the computer and wait for the operating system to load.

  • Insert the driver installation CD into your computer. Once the installation wizard loads, follow the set of prompts to complete the driver installation and finish the installation of your DirectX 9.0C compatible graphics adapter.
