How to Duplex Large-Format Printers

How to Duplex Large-Format Printersthumbnail
Duplexing makes your printer more useful.

Duplex printing has a number of advantages for businesses, and many business owners look for printers that are capable of printing on both sides. Regardless of their brand, large-format printers use a special piece of hardware called a duplexer to turn the paper over and print on the other side. The page is printed on one side, then it enters the duplexer, where it is turned and printed on the other side. When the paper emerges from the printer both sides have printing on them. The duplexer is generally sold as a separate unit, and the duplexer slot will be empty until that duplex unit is installed. When purchasing a duplex-capable printer, always determine whether or not the duplexer is included in the price.

    Instructions

      • 1

Locate the duplexer slot on the printer. Most of the time the duplexer slot is located on the left side of the printer, near the fuser cartridge, but the exact location will vary from brand to brand and model to model. Consult the printer's user guide for the spot where the duplexing unit should be installed.

Power down the printer before adding the duplexer. You will need to power cycle the printer before it can recognize the duplex unit.

      • 3

Open the duplexer drawer and carefully insert the duplexer unit. Push the unit in until it snaps into place. Close the duplexer door and turn on the printer.
