How to Install a Java Applet

Save

Java applets are small applications created using the Java programming language. These applications typically are used in correlation with Internet browsers, allowing you to view graphic and video content. There are dozens of different Java applets you can download and install onto your computer, each slightly different from one another. However, the installation process is the same for all Java applets.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet access
  • Open your Web browser and make your way to a site that has Java applets available for download. One example is "JavaBoutique.Internet.com." This site has a large selection of different Java applets available for free download.

  • Select the Java applet you want and click the applet name next to "Download." The applet downloads as a zip file.

  • Double-click the zip file and an unzip program loads. If it doesn't, right-click the file and select either "Extract" or "Unzip." If you don't have a zip program on your computer you can obtain one for free form WinZip.com.

  • Select an extraction location and click "Unzip" or "Extract." The file is now removed from the zipped source.

  • Double-click the extracted file to open the installation wizard. Follow the brief set of prompts to complete the applet installation. Leave all settings as default, otherwise the applets may not function properly.
