Troubleshooting a Sleep Number Bed

Troubleshooting a Sleep Number Bed thumbnail
Get the restful sleep you deserve on the right bed.

Select Comfort created the Sleep Number bed for those who have difficulty finding the perfect balance between mattress support and firmness. Instead of relying on springs or coils, the bed uses air chambers that deflate or inflate to create an adjustable mattress experience. Sometimes, the Sleep Number bed may not perform as you expect. Troubleshoot the bed to identify and resolve any underlying problems so you can get a deep, restful sleep. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Check that the Sleep Number bed is plugged into its control system box and that the box is connected to a power outlet if the bed's controls don't operate.

    • 2

Replace the bed's remote control battery if the bed no longer responds to the remote or if the light on the remote's front display flashes. A 9-volt battery is included with all new Sleep Number beds and will need replacing approximately every six months.

    • 3

Wait three nights if you find the Sleep Number bed uncomfortable. This gives your body time to get used to the bed. Select Comfort recommends setting the bed at a number of your choosing and keeping it at that number for three nights before adjusting the number setting in increments of 10, repeating as needed until you find the number that feels best to you.

    • 4

Inspect the bed's construction if you find it deflating over time. The bed should deflate only when you adjust your sleep number. Check all the air hoses that are plugged into the mattress, pushing them into the bed until you hear a click. If the bed continues to lose air, there may be a crack in one of its seals or air cells and the bed may need servicing by an authorized Select Comfort service center.

    • 5

Allow the mattress to air out without any bedding if you notice strange smells. A rubber smell is common with new Sleep Number beds and shouldn't be a cause for worry; it's nontoxic and will dissipate naturally. Musty or moldy smells may be a sign of mold. Running a dehumidifier, regularly washing the bedding and mattress cover, and ensuring proper airflow throughout the room can counteract mold problems.
