Instructions

    • 1

Check the outputs of the computer and DVD player to see what options are available. Generally a computer will have a VGA output (rectangular with a set of small pin holes); older ones may have an S-Video (circular). The DVD player should have a High-Definition Multimedia Interface or HDMI (flat rectangular with a slight bulge at the bottom) and/or a Component Video (three circular holes).

    • 2

Check the TV inputs to see what compatible matches are available. An HDMI input is compatible with the computer's VGA output.

    • 3

Choose the output option from the computer and DVD player that is the highest quality possible. The ranking from highest to lowest is HDMI (VGA), Component, S-Video.

    • 4

Attach the appropriate cable from the computer and DVD player to the corresponding TV input. For a computer's VGA output, a VGA-to-HDMI cable will be needed (available at any electronics or computer store)

    • 5

Play a DVD and switch the TV to the corresponding input to see if the connection worked. The computer's screen, if connected correctly, should appear on the TV screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the computer's screen does not appear on the screen initially, the problem may be due to incompatible output resolution. Try toggling with the resolution to find one that works with your TV set. This is more likely be the case with an HDTV as a standard definition is more compatible.
