How to Copy a CD-G Karaoke CD

How to Copy a CD-G Karaoke CD thumbnail
With the proper software, you can burn CD-G files to a standard CD disc.

CD-G files are karaoke files that contain audio and graphics--usually lyrics--that display on a video screen, while the audio plays through a karaoke sound system. Burning or copying CDs containing CD-G karaoke files is not quite as simple as burning or copying standard CDs. Only select CD-burning drives have the ability to read and burn CD-G files, and a limited number of CD-burning programs recognize the CD-G file type.

Instructions

    • 1

Install a CD-burning program that can read and write CD-G files. According to the Computall Services website, CD-burning programs that can read and write CD-G files include CloneCD, CDRWIN, Plextor Manager and Nero.

    • 2

Load the CD-G karaoke CD that you want to copy into the CD drive of your computer. Launch the CD-burning program. The CD-G files stored on the CD should populate in the program window.

    • 3

Click the "Rip" button to pull the CD-G files off of the CD and save them to your computer's hard drive, or if the feature is available, click the "Copy" button. Select a folder where you would like to save the files.

    • 4

Take the CD-G karaoke CD out of the CD drive and place a blank CD-R in the drive. If you chose the "Copy" mode, the files from the CD-G disc remain in the window and you can simply click burn. If you chose the "Rip" mode, you must press the "Import" or "Add" button to add the CD-G files that you just ripped back into the program.

    • 5

Click the "Burn" or "Write" button once you have added the files to the CD-burning program. The files copy to the blank disc, creating a backup copy of the original CD-G karaoke CD.
