How to Disable Proxy Settings in XP

The proxy settings in Windows XP allows the user to browse the internet safely. The proxy is another http address beside the computer users real IP address. Generally, a proxy address is used to prevent hackers and spammers from stealing the users personal information. The biggest problems with proxy addresses and proxy servers is that they are very slow.

Instructions

1. Open up the Windows XP and click on the "Start" button on the bottom left hand side of the window.

2. Click on the "Control Panel" option.

3. Click on the "Network and Internet Connections" option.

4. Click on the "Internet Options" option.

5. Click on the "Connections" tab at the top of the "Internet Properties" window.

6. Click on the "LAN Settings" option at the bottom of the box.

7. Uncheck the box under the "Proxy Server" option and click on "OK".

8. Close out of all of the windows. The next time that you start Windows XP, the proxy settings will be disabled.

Tips & Warnings

• The next time that you want to browse under a proxy address, put a check back inside of the box under the "Proxy Servers" option.

• Be aware that when you surf under a proxy that your computer will slow down significantly.
