Canon 5870 Waste Toner Cartridge Replacement Instructions
Canon markets a network-capable, multifunction printer called the imageRunner (iR) 5870. The machine's toner-collection system delivers unused toner from the copy process to a waste toner collection bottle in the back of the machine. Over time, the bottle fills up. A soft counter in the machine's logic center counts the copies made and generates a waste toner full message (WTNR-FUL) on the display panel when the machine reaches a preset number of copies. A mechanical switch in the toner-collection system physically detects a full condition and generates an E013 error code. When either of these conditions arise, the toner bottle must be changed and the internal counter reset.

Tips & Warnings
Toner is not hazardous waste, but it is a particulate irritant. Do not allow the waste toner to become airborne.
Wash your clothes in cold water to remove toner. Do not dry the clothes in the dryer until all the toner has been removed. Heat from warm-water washing or from the dryer cycle will set toner that remains in the garment's fabric.
Always follow the proper shutdown procedure when powering down the iR5870. Failure to adhere to the shutdown sequence damages the machine's hard drive.
Do not reconnect the network connection until after clearing the waste toner counter and exiting the service mode. Incoming print jobs while the machine is in service mode are potentially damaging to the machine.
Do not reset any counters or change any values other than the waste toner counter while in service mode. Changing adjusting values or resetting counters is potentially damaging to the machine and may render it inoperable either immediately or over time.
