How to Become a Locksmith for Motorcycle Keys
If you love motorcycles and enjoy the challenge of being a locksmith, you can specialize in motorcycle locksmithing. Motorcycle riders often need new or duplicate keys for their bike or motorcycle lock equipment just as often as car drivers do. You can't study just motorcycle locksmithing; to become a locksmith, you'll need to learn basic principles including key duplication, cabinet and furniture locks and lock opening techniques.

Choose a locksmith school using the Associated Locksmiths of America directory. Programs are broken down into residential, online and correspondence categories, with some schools offering their program in a variety of formats.

Enroll in a program. During the program you'll learn the fundamentals of locksmithing and the business basics to begin operating as a locksmith. Some of the topics covered in school are emergency openings, car openings, home alarm systems and safe openings. Complete your locksmith program.

Take the locksmith exam to become a certified locksmith. The exam has 10 mandatory subject areas and 26 elective areas. To become a certified locksmith, you need to pass one or two elective areas. Motorcycle locks is an elective category. Your elective exam categories contain 25 to 40 questions, while the mandatory areas consist of 250 questions.

Pass the mandatory exam and the motorcycle locks elective to become a certified registered locksmith. Now you can work as a motorcycle key locksmith.
