How to Delete Cookies for Windows Vista

Cookies are little text files that are created by the websites you visit to save information about your activities when you're surfing the Internet. Most cookies are simply placeholders, but some track your Web whereabouts and pop-ups and other advertisements are made to reflect what the cookie-makers see as your interests. Either way, deleting cookies is easy in Windows Vista, and it's a good idea to get rid of them from time to time because they can slow down your computer if they're allowed to pile up too high.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the Start button (the taskbar button that has the Windows logo on it) and the Start Menu will appear.

    • 2

      Click on "Control Panel."

    • 3

Select "Network and Internet" and then click on "Internet Options."

    • 4

      Click on the "General" tab.

    • 5

Click on "Delete" in the "Browsing history" section.

    • 6

Check the box beside "Cookies" and then click on "Delete" to erase all the cookies on your computer.

    • 7

Click on "Settings" in the "Browsing history" section.

    • 8

Click on "View files" and the "Temporary Internet Files" folder will appear. The folder should be empty since you just deleted all the cookies on the computer, but if it isn't, just highlight all the files in the folder and delete them.

Close the folder and the "Internet Options" screen to finish the task.
