If you obtain your television programming through a cable provider, chances are you also use the company for your Internet connection. When doing so, the Internet streams through a coaxial cable, the same cable you use to access the Internet. However, your computer does not have a coaxial cable Internet connection, so you need to convert the connection into an Ethernet cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the coaxial cable running form the wall---this is the cable connection running into your home---and attach it to the "WAN" port on the back of the cable modem. The coaxial cable has a threaded connector, so make sure you twist the cable on completely to secure the connection.

    • 2

Plug the Ethernet cable into one of the numbered "Out" ports along the side of the cable modem. It does not matter which "Out" port you use.

    • 3

Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the "WAN" port on the back side of your computer. Once the cable is inserted a light appears next to the cable, signifying the connection is complete.

    • 4

Power on the cable modem and open the Internet browser on the computer.
