Homemade Happy Valentine's Day Cards for Mom
For many sons and daughters, mom is the most important person in their life. She is one individual who has been there through the potty training, broken hearts and college graduations. Show mom how much you appreciate her by constructing a Valentine's Day card from the heart, not a grocery store shelf. You can also assist a small child in your life make a card for their very appreciative mother. Your local craft store readily carries all the products required for these cards.
Things You'll Need
- Wax paper, 3 pieces
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Pencil sharpener
- Pink or red construction paper
- White construction paper
- Other construction paper
- Iron
- Pen
- Pencil
- Shoe box
- Pink paint
- Paint brush
- Chocolate hearts
- Confetti

Crayon Glass Heart

Cut out the shape of three hearts from piece of wax paper. Cut out the first heart and use it as a template for the second and third heart to make the card more symmetrical. Set one of the hearts aside.

Shave two or three crayons of different colors with a pencil shaver.

Pour the crayon shaving onto two of the wax-paper hearts. Fold one end of the heart over itself to ensure that the shavings do not leak out.

Fold a piece of construction paper in half to form a card.

Turn an iron on to a medium setting and gently place it on the wax hearts for two to three seconds, or until the wax melts. Cover the hearts with a piece of construction paper to ensure that the wax paper does not melt. Carefully open up the hearts and lay them flat until they cool.

Using the third wax heart as a template, trace two hearts onto the front of the card. Cut out the heart shapes with a pair of scissors.

Glue the wax paper hearts to the inside front flap of the card. The melted crayon should shine through the holes like stained glass.

Write a Valentine's Day message for your mother inside the card.
Hand Cards

Trace your child's hand onto several different colored pieces of construction paper.

Cut out each hand with a pair of scissors.

Write messages of love on each hand with crayon. This card is ideal for a small child to give to his or her mother. The child can help make the card as well by drawing his or her name or writing small pictures onto each of the hands.

Paint an entire shoe box with pink paint and set it aside to dry.

Fill the dried shoe box with pieces of heart shaped chocolate, confetti and the hand cards.
