The way to go about learning 3D animation online will depend on which program you want to learn. Certain programs have free online resources available, and many fee-based services will teach you virtually any program. What you must first do is research which program you want to learn and go from there.

You will probably need to know several programs to make a career of 3D animation, but you have to start somewhere. 3D animation software ranges in difficulty from basic to advanced. The lower-end software packages are numerous, and many, like Poser, are free. Check out forums that deal with 3D information to get opinions from people already in the using the software as a hobby or profession. You should be able to select some starter software from there.

2. Find training services for your chosen software. Again, the best way to find good training is to frequent forums that deal with 3D animation and ask where those people got training. Pay services are not always better than free training.

3. Learn a more advanced program. Training on the more complex software packages will probably require formal training from an academic institution. If you plan to make 3D animation a career, you will probably want a credential to begin with, so you should research schools to find one that will teach you the right programs at an affordable price. Many online schools can be extremely expensive, so be careful.
