How to Troubleshoot the Kenmore Electric Range thumbnail
Electric stoves can develop unforeseen problems.

Kenmore electric ranges, just like any electrical device, can develop problems that prevent the unit from working correctly. Problems can include the range not working and messages that appear on the display. You can troubleshoot your Kenmore electric range by first determining the cause of the problem. Once the cause of the problem has been found, steps can be taken to make the needed corrections or adjustments. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Range Not Working

    • 1

Verify that the range is plugged into the wall outlet. If the range is plugged in, check the circuit panel to see if a circuit is blown. Reset the circuit for the range if it has been tripped.

    • 2

Turn the control knob for the range to see if it can be set correctly. The knob needs to be pushed inward before it can be turned.

    • 3

Look to see if the lockouts have been set for the oven and cooktop. Turn off the lockouts, and see if the oven and cooktop can now be set correctly.

    Messages on the Display

    • 4

Press the "Off/Cancel" button on the range if the letters "PF" appear on the display. This clears the display screen, along with the clock.

    • 5

Press the "Off/Cancel" button on the range if the letters "EO F5" appear on the display. This message appears when the oven door will not close because of interference from the self-clean latch mechanism.

    • 6

Locate the door switch plunger on the front of the oven frame. Press down and hold the switch for about six seconds to unlock the latch mechanism.

Tips & Warnings

  • Refer to the manual for your electric range for setting the clock and learning about each type of display message.

  • You will need to reset the clock on the range when clearing the display screen.
