How to Make a Wand with Crystals

Children love books and movies about wizardry, sorcery and fairies. What better way to encourage their creativity than to help them create their own magic wands that contain real crystals. Children can use these wands to pretend that they are casting spells, practicing wizardry or even just as a decoration for their bedrooms. Magic wands also make a great accent for a fantasy-based Halloween costume. To make a magic wand with crystals, each child will need a few materials that can be found at any craft store.

Things You'll Need

  • 12-inch stick
  • Sandpaper (coarse and fine)

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the base of your magic wand with sandpaper. Find a stick that is around 12 inches long and then remove any large pieces of bark. If the stick is roughly textured, use a coarse-grained sandpaper to smooth it out. Once the stick has been smoothed significantly, use a fine-grained sandpaper to make the wand very smooth and splinter-free. Use small, rounded motions with the sandpaper.

      Apply glitter glue.

Apply glitter glue to the wand to give it an ethereal, mystical feel. Glitter glue will add sparkle without the need to sprinkle on messy glitter and drippy glue. Simply squirt various colors of glitter glue around your wand; then use your finger to smooth the glue. Allow the glitter glue to dry completely.

Glue ribbons and crystals onto the wand.

Add on ribbons and crystals using a hot glue gun. Plug in the hot glue gun and set it on a flat surface. Insert a hot glue stick into the hot glue gun and wait for it to heat up. When the glue is ready, squirt a small amount of hot glue where you would like to add on ribbons. Carefully lay the ribbons onto the hot glue, but avoid touching the hot glue. Apply hot glue to the very tip of the wand and then press the crystals into the hot glue. Hold the crystals onto the hot glue until it hardens. This will be the magical end of the wand. Your magic wand is now ready to cast spells.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adults should apply the hot glue to the wands, as the glue can burn skin easily.
